| Quadron
was one of 2 Somerset companies who were involved in trials to test
a new biodegradable type of pot – in the heart of London.
Quadron, used the pots, supplied by Avoncrop of Winscombe, for bedding
plants for summer 2003.
The biological pot, called the Napac NaturePot,
is manufactured by the Swiss company Napac. The pot is made out
of Elephant Grass (Miscanthus Sinensis Gigantheus) and can be handled
with conventional machines. It is planted directly in the soil with
the plant where it decomposes into a natural fertilizer.
The location used for the trials was the Bullring
flower bed immediately outside the gates to the Chelsea Flower Show
Ground and were on view to the thousands of people who passed by
on their way to the show during May 2003.
Clive Ivil, Quadron’s Operations Director
said: “Our client, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea,
is very supportive of new innovations. The trial was extremely successful
and we are hoping that all bedding plants will be grown in these
pots in years to come,” he continued. |
