When becoming
DDA compliant, the work varied depending on the type of building but generally
involved:
Car park lining - creating new and/or remarking customer disabled
parking bays and allowing parent and child bays to become more prominent
in each store.
Ramp installation - the removal of steps to allow
better accessin and out of stores.
Handrails - to allow customers better stability.
Drop crossings - removal of kerbs to reduce trip
hazards for the elderly especially and the introduction of tactile
paving to denote a change in level for blind people.
External lighting - allowing better visability.
Pedestrian crossings - allowing a safer environment
to get from parking bays into the store.
Bollard / barrier demarcation - highlighting to
easily identify potential obstacles in a persons way.
Signage - improving car park and directional signage
especially to disabled and parent and child bays.
Door Demarcation - to easily identify store ingress
and egress.
Seating - for customers to rest where necessary.
Induction loops - for hard of hearing at kiosks,
delicatessens, wide aisles.
